Getting Serious About Affiliate Marketing: Sharing, Learning, and Staying Active

Lately, I've been thinking more seriously about affiliate marketing—not just dabbling, not just reading or watching from the sidelines, but actually leaning into it. It’s not about chasing trends or making a quick buck. For me, it’s about staying engaged, sharing what I’ve learned through a lifetime of experiences, and continuing to grow… even in this chapter of life that’s often painted as “slowing down.”

That’s not how I see it. That’s not how I want to live it.

Affiliate marketing is more than just posting a few links and hoping for the best. It’s a skill, a system—and yes, it does take education. I’ve learned that it's not enough to just know what you like—you need to understand your audience, choose the right tools, write or speak in a way that connects, and most importantly, stay consistent. And that doesn’t come naturally to everyone, especially those of us starting later in life. But that doesn't mean it's out of reach.

There’s a learning curve. Absolutely. But if you’re curious, if you enjoy connecting the dots between what has helped you and what might help someone else—affiliate marketing becomes less about “selling” and more about serving.

For me, it’s about keeping my brain sharp and my spirit connected. It’s a way to stay relevant, not in the flashy sense, but in the real sense. If I can share what I’ve learned—about downsizing, about wellness, about navigating change—while also creating a small income stream that supports my independence, why not?

This season of life doesn’t have to mean fading into the background. We have so much to offer. But it does mean being intentional. That’s why I’m investing more time into learning the ropes—studying strategies, understanding what platforms work best, and choosing partners that align with my values.

If you’re thinking about stepping into affiliate marketing, I’d say this: Don’t be intimidated. Be curious. Find a good teacher or course, start small, and be willing to learn. You don’t need to be flashy or tech-savvy. You just need to care. And trust me, that still shines through.

If you want to follow along or dive into some of the same learning resources I’ve used, you can find me on Instagram @deniseearnsextra, or check out my Stan Store where I’ve curated some helpful courses and tools to get you started.

Here’s to staying active—mentally, creatively, and financially. Here’s to sharing our stories, and making them count.
